“As of this day, we are River People” – and we are! – we are not ‘coasties’, we are not mountain folk, we are not desert, valley, island or rainforest people, we are not city and nor are we entirely bush – we are river people – and if art is the language that can bring us together under that one banner, and can, for the briefest moment, create a space where we all connect and identify, then art has done its job. The lanterns floated, the people came, the weather behaved….what more can you ask?
